Luthiers Workshop / Design Phase
Here’s a sample of our latest design work. The workshop, a place to produce fine string instruments, is located in a conservation area at the bottom of the garden. The design works to accommodate the maker, his machinery, a garden store and a bench to relax in the sun.
With the front facade dominating the bottom of the garden, it was important to produce a design that is both functional but in some form sculptural and elegant. The tapered facade conceals a store for garden tools and reduces the volume of the building when viewed from the house, with shadows cast on differing planes. A single key window provides a view down the garden, located at the side of the structure it opens to allow ventilation and maintains privacy for the maker, the rooflights flood the space with light.
We look forward to the next phase and will add more detailed drawings as they are created.
