Refurbishment of a former Carpentry Works to Artists studios

FACTORY architecture have been commissioned to oversee the development of a former carpentry works into artists studios in Glasgow’s vibrant community of Finneston.  Originally constructed circa 1860, the building housed carpenters and furniture makers over 4 floors.  A remnant of former industry, the structure was partially demolished (or cut in half) many years ago when train lines crossed its path.  The existing structure has remained largely derelict in recent years and was at one time an industrial laundry.  The proposal will aim to bring the building back into use and provide valuable studio space for Glasgow’s expansive community of artists and designers.

The project is in an early stage of development and FACTORY are currently working with Glasgow City Council to restore the external character of the building and reinstate its position within the conservation area.
