Archive 002 : Library

Number 002 on our archive list is a library from projects past.  The building, set deep within the heart of a medieval  town centre, is a hidden gem reached by a cobbled lane off the main square.  Set within a plinth, the ground floor has been arranged around a concrete colonnade that faces a newly formed courtyard.  The upper floors are clad in copper, in reference to the vernacular roofs of the surrounding landscape.

The interior is a combination of concrete, timber and slate.  The bright study spaces which circle the courtyard have been furnished in light Oak.  In contrast, the bookshelves have been finished in a darker stain of Oak to signal a change in zone and create an immersive atmosphere.
